What is a Giclee Art Print?
A Giclee print is produced in a slightly different way than the usual print process.
First of all the image to be reproduced is saved at high resolution, 300 dpi. This maintains the
integrity of the artwork and reproduces with great clarity and visual resolution.
A professional giclee printer is used, in this case, an 3880 Epson Professional Giclee printer. The printer
utilizes Epson archival inks formulated to retain color and brilliance at a life span of 100 years in
normal gallery conditions.
Why is it different from a regular print?
( The biggest contrast between a standard inkjet print and a giclee print is that giclees are printed using pigment-based inks rather than the dye-based inks found in lower cost ink jets. Pigment-based inks have a longer life span that can last anywhere from 100 to 200 years without significant fading. The type of printer used to create giclees is usually a larger format printer that specifically uses pigment-based inks and will hold around 8 to 12 different color ink cartridges. The more inks used, the more sophisticated the color range available on final output. Look for ink names like UltraChrome K3 from Epson and LUCIA from Canon as these are two of the wider know pigment-based inks from the major printer manufactures.)
What are the materials that Sweet Pea And Gummy Bear uses in printing?
The paper used in printing is also very important. An acid free environment for the inks is
demanded for longevity of the art piece. For Sweet Pea And Gummy Bear’s giclee artworks,
we use Epson Velvet Fine Art Paper. This paper is acid-free and is 100% cotton. It is a thick
heavyweight bright white ground for the archival inks. It has produced watercolor reproductions
that are identical to the original art! The paper itself is expensive, but the print quality is
beautiful and very long lasting(a lifetime). With a small art shop, like Sweet Pea And Gummy Bear,
each giclee print is produced for you on a custom basis. Your print is processed when you order it.
So your custom giclee is very fresh and new.
All of my prints are used with very high quality materials including pigment based inks and archival papers. For optimal care and feeding of your new artwork and keep your print in pristine great condition, it is important to frame with archival materials (mattes, backing board etc), keep out of direct sunlight, and frame with a UV glass.
Each print is hand signed on the front. Printed on professional grade paper(Epson Velvet Fine Art); heavy weight, archival and acid free.
